On Sunday 06 October 2024, I visited the site of the future transitional housing site on Lorraine Street. The south and west side are getting ready for the final cladding.
The south side has half of the the wood strapping installed.
A year behind schedule
The pre-fab four storey building was announced in August 2021 and construction started in June 2023. The building was expected to open in November 2023.
The front of the building has most of the final cladding installed.
It has a brutalist Lego look to it. Maybe they will plant vines. That could help.
While taking this photograph, I notice some blue writing on the bottom right-hand panels. I took a closer look.
I saw that the community has prepared welcoming banners for their new neighbours. How sweet and thoughtful. I trust that the councilor for Ward 5 will get this removed before the first residents move in; hopefully they will arrive some time this year.
Disappointing to see the graffiti. I hope the transitional housing works for the population that needs it!
