Sudbury Outreach Support (SOS)
Sudbury Outreach Sudbury (SOS) is a community-based volunteer group that helps the homeless.
SOS distributes clothing, footwear and toiletries to the homeless and to low-income people who mainly live in the downtown area every Wednesday between 3:30 pm and 6:00 pm. They are located in the parking lot in front of the train station, right across the street from the Samaritan Centre.
They distribute up to 2,000 items each Wednesday.
Denise Sandul, a co-founder of Sudbury Outreach Support, attended the “Rock the Bullet” fundraiser hosted by the Silver Bullet 2.0 in August. SOS was one of the two organizations that benefitted from the money that was raised.
Sunday Lunch
During the winter months, SOS provides a meal on Sundays from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.
They supply 150 meals and always run out. Tim Hortons provides one meal a month plus lots of coffee.
The other three meals that SOS provides every month are very costly. The volunteers greatly appreciate all the community support that they receive.
SOS needs a location
SOS urgently need a storage place as we need to move out of our current location by Thursday! They are hoping to be able to return to one of The Market stalls for the winter months as the The Market closes their Elgin Street location for the winter.
They operated out of a stall last winter but they are not sure they will be able to return this year.
Michael Vagnini, the councilor for Ward 2 is a strong supporter of the work that SOS is doing for Sudbury’s unfortunate.
SOS is not a registered charity. It asks for donations of material things but they do not ask for money. They will accept financial assistance but the volunteers are not able to give income tax receipts.

June posting on Facebook
Our volunteers held an amazing yard sale. We hoped to make $200 to purchase snacks, socks, water, and hygiene items. These are items in need every week. We often get donations and we appreciate all of them. Often we run out of these items and our volunteers pay for what is needed.
It was a 12-hour shift for our volunteers to make this Thursday yard sale happen. We had been gathering items since last fall. The SOS yard sale made $1,096.10.
Thank you to the volunteers who helped make this happen, thank you to those who donated and we appreciate all of people who came and purchased items.
